WE ARE PLEASED TO RELEASE THIS YEAR'S 2008 ANNUAL REPORT.

Our 2007-2008 fiscal year was one of resounding success. The annual report outlines the record-breaking charitable giving we saw from the San Diego community, as well as the positive impact created through our community programs.

We are incredibly proud of our achievements, but also humbled by the commitment of the donors, volunteers, staff and other partners who made it all possible.

Long-term stakeholders will notice some changes to this year’s annual report. We have reduced the length of the booklet by listing our funds more briefly, and supplemented it with an online component that includes approved descriptions of funds. Additionally, we have created a brief video that summarizes the achievements of the year and illustrates the emotional impact of what we do.

Descriptions of funds will be available beginning the week of December 1, 2008

We are all touched by the current economic climate. Whatever our situation, our anxiety climbs as we watch the stock market rise and fall. Our community is resilient, but the threat is great right now.

We also know that our donors need practical ways to brace themselves for the uncertain economy. We engage with professional advisors and financial managers to help donors best understand and maximize the benefits of giving. As we enter the final quarter of this tax year, we encourage our donors to consider how their contributions benefit not only the community, but them as taxpayers. As always, we are here to provide resources and answer questions about how contributions can be mutually beneficial to a wonderful cause and to the generous donor who gives to it.

Record Number of Applications Expected as The Foundation Launches New Scholarship Season

The San Diego Foundation believes everyone has a right to higher education, and this year’s Community Scholarship Program season is more important than ever. With the economy so volatile and an increasing number of San Diegans out of work, The Foundation is preparing for a sharp increase in applications from graduating high school seniors who are financially struggling, as well as adults who find themselves out of work and returning to the classroom to develop new job skills.

To meet the anticipated demand, The Foundation plans to award $6.2 million in scholarships this year, and believes the community will once again come together to achieve this goal by establishing new scholarship funds or contributing to existing scholarship funds at The San Diego Foundation.

The Foundation’s Scholarship Program is the region’s largest scholarship provider outside of the university system. Since 1997, it has made higher education possible for thousands of San Diego students. The program offers a wide variety of scholarships to graduating high school seniors, current college graduates, and adult re-entry students. Awards are granted to four-year universities, two-year colleges, graduate, or trade/vocational schools.

To contribute to this outstanding program and make higher education possible for San Diegans, please contact Arzo Mansury Director of Scholarships at (619) 235-2300 or Arzo@sdfoundation.org.
