Community Environment and Blasker Environment Grants

The Environment Working Group held its grants celebration on June 1 for the 2011 Community Environment and Blasker Environment Grants cycle. This year’s grants will support (1) efforts to advance the completion of a network of lands and watersheds to provide clean water and habitat for people and wildlife; (2) work to enhance human health and environments in communities that are disproportionately impacted by pollution; and (3) unique and innovative research on the potential local impacts of global climate change and ways to reduce our local greenhouse gas emissions and minimize climate change impacts. Also, the Environment Giving Initiative recently co-hosted a hike and lunch with the Escondido Creek Conservancy, for prospective donors to learn more about Conservation Catalyst Fund. BetterGiving Launch
BetterGiving
We recently celebrated the one-year anniversary of our BetterGiving launch. We now have just over 300 published portraits and another 300 in the process of being completed. BetterGiving is an online searchable resource designed to create awareness for organizations that serve our community and connect donor passion with nonprofit investment opportunities. Each BetterGiving portrait showcases a nonprofit’s strengths and needs by providing detailed facts about an organization, including financial, programmatic and governance information. Through the utilization of BetterGiving, we hope to increase both nonprofits’ capacity to provide services and their visibility to interested donors and the community.

ANNUAL GIVING CAMPAIGNS

Civic Leadership Fund and Friends of The Foundation

The San Diego Foundation manages two annual funds –the Civic Leadership Fund and Friends of the Foundation. The two funds align with the two sides of The Foundation – leadership and legacy. The Civic Leadership Fund allows individuals, businesses and nonprofits to give at any level to support our programs, initiatives, research and convenings conducted within the Malin Burnham Center for Civic Engagement; whereas, Friends of the Foundation supports the general operation of The San Diego Foundations. Again, individuals and organizations can pull each individual contribution to maximize our ability to enhance the quality of life in the region.
