San Diego, CA (December 28, 2011) -- The San Diego Foundation has named Lori Holt Pfeiler as Associate Vice President, Our Greater San Diego Vision. Lori will lead the execution of Our Greater San Diego Vision’s public choosing, and she will lead the team in analyzing the choosing data to create the vision document and the associated implementation plan. Lori has a long-standing commitment to serving the San Diego region, and with her experience with local governments, planning and public speaking, she will be most useful in the months ahead. San Diego Foundation Adds $125,000 to the original match pool of $150,000!

To meet the anticipated increased demand from a poor economy, The San Diego Foundation has launched an online application. WD-40 Donation of at least $300,000 to benefit military charities and honor those who serve or have served in uniform
April 27, 2011 - WD-40 Company has set up an advised fund with The San Diego Foundation for its Military Collectable Series. This series will honor the U.S. military by creating a collectable series of cans with special artwork recognizing all of the branches of the military. Consumers can support the effort by purchasing a can, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting military charities including Armed Services YMCA; the Wounded Warrior Project; and Veterans Medical Research Foundation.

April 18, 2011 – The San Diego Regional Disaster Fund, a supporting organization of The San Diego Foundation, released its 2007 Wildfires Final Report. The report outlines a broad overview of how the Disaster Fund partnered with more than 2,200 donors and more than 50 local nonprofit agencies over three years to assist in the 2007 wildfires recovery and rebuilding efforts – investing more than $10 million to rebuild the fire-stricken communities throughout the San Diego region.

Funded by the Del Mar Healthcare Fund
Jan. 26, 2011 - The San Diego Foundation will award $328,000 to six grantees on Thursday, February 3. This philanthropic support of our county’s aging adults, which is made possible through the Del Mar Healthcare Fund held at The Foundation, will increase case management and outreach services as well as create a GIS-mapping tool for agencies that serve older adults. These grants are the first in a newly established program, Our Aging Society, within The Foundation’s Health & Human Services program.

June 2010 – Adrian Gonzalez has awarded six scholarships from his fund at The San Diego Foundation. Awardees will receive $8,000 over four years providing they maintain a 3.0 GPA and a record of good citizenship. Adrian and his wife, Betsy, participated in the candidate interviews between game days. Personal involvement in the selection process was important to them both.

The 186 concrete public fire pits measuring 5 feet by 5 feet have been a popular part of San Diego beach culture for decades. The City of San Diego had sought to eliminate beach fire pits on Mission Bay, La Jolla Shores, and Ocean Beach in 2010 to help trim approximately $120,000 per year from the City’s budget.

November 10, 2009 - The Carlsbad Charitable Foundation (CCF) has received a $25,000 matching grant from the Carlsbad-based Leichtag Family Foundation (LFF) to incentivize memberships and support the CFF’s continued philanthropic activities in the Carlsbad community. The grant-matching deadline is December 31, 2009. Businesses and individuals making a five-year commitment at $1,000 per year to the Carlsbad Charitable Foundation by that date will see their positive impact on the community doubled as their first-year contribution is matched by the LFF.

At a Time of Increased Need Due to the Economy, $3 Million Will Fund Critical Health and Human Service Programs
October 7, 2009 – The San Diego Foundation and the Alliance Healthcare Foundation are pleased to announce that more than $3 million has been awarded to nonprofit organizations serving the healthcare needs of residents in the Paradise Valley Hospital service area. Of the $3 million, nearly $2.8 million came from the Paradise Valley Hospital Community Health Fund, which was created when the hospital was sold to Prime Healthcare Services in 2007. Additionally, more than $270,000 was granted directly from The San Diego Foundation.
