Balboa Park Centennial Fund
Planning for Balboa Park’s 100-year anniversary celebration has begun. To support these efforts, the Balboa Park Centennial Fund has been established. Just as the 1915 Exposition left a generous gift to the future (modern-day Balboa Park), so the 2015 Celebration will leave a legacy of lasting memories for future residents and visitors alike.
Balboa Park Conservancy Fund
Balboa Park is treasured and sustained as one of the greatest parks in the world. This fund supports the work of the Balboa Park Conservancy, a nonprofit organization developed to preserve, enhance and promote Balboa Park for the enjoyment and education of present and future generations.
Austin Bice Memorial Fund
This fund was formed in Austin’s honor. He went to Torrey Pines High School where he received an award for scholarship, integrity and leadership. His love for school carried over to San Diego State University (SDSU) and the Universidad Carlos III in Spain. Regretfully, his life came to a tragic end in Madrid. The primary goal of this fund is to provide scholarships to support students attending SDSU who exhibit similar scholarship and leadership traits with the moral and ethical values he exhibited.
Boore Family Foundation
Chris and Regina Boore are longtime residents of Poway, California. Both have business careers in the medical industry. The Boores have charitable hearts and established the foundation to support the many general charitable purposes about which they care so deeply. They wish to strengthen the nonprofits that they support and enjoy the flexibility and ease with which they are able to accomplish these charitable goals with their fund at The San Diego Foundation.
Cabrillo Charitable Fund
Scott Peters and Lynn Gorguze established The Cabrillo Charitable Fund to formalize their family’s philanthropic support for our region. Over the past 20 years, they have given to San Diego organizations fighting poverty and supporting education, the arts, youth development, medical research, veterans, the environment, and health care. The Cabrillo Charitable Fund will further the couple’s passion for making San Diego a better place by supporting organizations that focus in these areas. The fund will also assist The San Diego Foundation’s efforts in civic engagement – the Climate Initiative, which Scott chairs, and Our Greater San Diego Vision, where Scott volunteers.
Rubie Eileen Chapman Elementary Education Scholarship and the Tom Chapman Civil Engineering Scholarship
Rubie graduated from San Diego State University (SDSU) with a degree in elementary education, and Tom graduated from the same university with a degree in civil engineering. A number of years after their time at the university, both husband and wife wished to help other SDSU students in-need.
Children’s Pool Access Fund
This fund was established to support the City of San Diego to hire a guard to ensure access to the Children’s Pool in La Jolla.
Conservation Catalyst Fund
The Environment Working Group at The Foundation has developed the Conservation Catalyst Fund in collaboration with four regional land trust organizations to accelerate the protection of San Diego County’s most-treasured wild lands. The fund provides immediate support designed to guarantee long-term benefits for our natural lands, and the people, plants and animals that inhabit them.
Chad Corbin Memorial Scholarship
This fund was set up by Jamie Corbin and Jay Dunham in memory of Chad, Jamie’s 31-year-old son who valued education as a means to better himself. Their vision for the fund is to help young adults who want to better themselves by going to a college or trade school.

Creative Catalyst Fund
The San Diego Foundation will help advance the careers of artists by providing opportunities to develop new work in collaboration with sponsoring nonprofit arts and culture organizations. Artists at all stages of their careers – emerging, mid-career and established – will receive grants that afford gifts of time, space and mentorship as they deepen their practice, experiment with new art forms, or work across disciplines to enhance the spirit of creativity throughout our region.
Creativity in the Classroom
The Creativity in the Classroom Fund was developed by The Foundation’s Arts & Culture Working Group and will provide support throughout our region to ensure that every day, every child, in every school has access to learning in and through the arts. Grants will be made for program assessment, research, collaboration, and advocacy with a goal of elevating overall student achievement and providing the greatest opportunities for success.
Cushman Foundation Scholarship
The Cushman family has been a part of the San Diego community for generations. It is their love of San Diego and belief in the transformative power of education that first interested them in establishing a scholarship fund. The Cushman family believes that financial hardships should not prevent students from achieving their education dreams. Community service is a passion of the family’s and they look for scholarship applicants with a strong commitment to serving the community.
The Bob and Ann Dynes Charitable Fund
This fund was created to support the Dynes’ philanthropic involvement with the San Diego community and beyond. Bob is currently a member of The San Diego Foundation’s Board of Governors. His distinguished career includes serving as a research physicist at AT&T Bell Laboratories, Chancellor of University of California, San Diego (UCSD), and President of the ten-campus the University of California (UC) system. A past chair of The San Diego Foundation’s Board of Governors, Ann currently serves on the board of Voices for Children, and has served on the boards of numerous other professional and charitable organizations.
Escondido - Quality of Life Fund
City officials of the City of Escondido established a charitable foundation allowing businesses and individuals to donate to specific programs or for special equipment. This fund was established to support programs and services in the areas of recreation, older adults and parks within the City of Escondido.
Global Disaster Relief Fund
The San Diego Foundation created the Global Disaster Relief Fund to facilitate charitable giving to foreign countries after a disaster. The Global Disaster Relief Fund supported relief, recovery and rebuilding efforts in the areas affected by the massive Japan earthquake and tsunami.
George and Paula Hauer Foundation
George and Paula are longtime residents and business owners in the community of La Jolla. Interested in art, travel, environment, and food, they established this foundation to serve the general charitable purposes that they care about and support.
Hoffman Family Foundation
Trevor and Tracy Hoffman established their foundation to educate their young children about the importance of giving back to the community. They look forward to supporting youth in the San Diego region, via scholarships and other programs helping at-risk children. Trevor is well-known as a “closer” and is the Major League Baseball all-time leader in saves. Tracy is a former Buffalo Bills cheerleader and also worked in
real estate.
Jacob Hanna, Sr. Scholarship Fund
This scholarship was established by Nabil and Gayda Hanna. Jacob Hanna spent more than 40 years educating young students. His dedication, passion and commitment to education, especially to science, inspired many of his students to pursue careers in science. This scholarship was established to honor Mr. Hanna and his contribution to education.
Jon Henderson Memorial Scholarship Fund
The fund was established as outlined in Jon’s will to give back to the organization that provided him so much joy. This fund will honor the Kappa Sigma fraternity that he loved, and help undergraduate students affiliated with Kappa Sigma in the greater San Diego area by providing two annual scholarships to undergraduates who display the scholastic achievements, leadership skills and support of the community that Jon so highly valued.
The Karen and Rob Fund
The Karen and Rob Fund was established to celebrate the marriage of Karen Begin and Robert Hutsel. Rob and Karen believe in the importance of family philanthropy and have created this fund to advance creativity and strengthen communities where ecosystems, culture and people are valued. It is their goal that each grant from this fund, no matter the amount, will leave a significant mark on the operations, programs or projects of the nonprofit organizations they support.
Sharon Kern Foundation
This fund was established to support the philanthropic and charitable goals of the Dennis and Sharon Kern family in loving memory of Sharon Kern, including, but not limited, to activities and organizations benefitting women such as the Imperial Valley and San Diego chapters of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and culinary education.
Klosterman Family Fund
Steve and Linda Klosterman are active in business, philanthropy and volunteer with a variety of organizations. They founded this fund to support general charitable purposes and to set an example of “giving back” for their children. Steve serves on the Investment Committee for The San Diego Foundation and also for the National American Lung Association. Linda is President of Klosterman Capital Corporation and is an active volunteer with the local chapter of the National Charity League. The Klostermans reside in Encinitas and enjoy traveling.

The purpose of the fund is to identify and support promising young engineering and science students who have displayed exceptional leadership qualities and who need a financial “helping hand” to realize their full potential.

William and Patricia Moises Fund
Bill and Patty Moises volunteer in several community areas and have a desire to give back where there is need. Bill is a retired architect who moved to San Diego in 1958 and Patty is a native San Diegan who taught school for more than 35 years. Their fund will support causes related to education, seniors and people with disabilities.
Ann Intili Morey Foundation
Ann Intili Morey has lived in San Diego for more than 25 years and is committed to diversity and human rights. The fund will support San Diego organizations and groups that are trying to improve the human experience for all individuals.
Natalie Nield MemoriaL Scholarship Fund
Natalie Elizabeth Nield lived life to the fullest, making every moment count. Natalie was a few days shy of her 18th birthday when she was killed in a tragic car accident coming home from a training camp in Mammoth. Natalie had graduated with academic honors from Cathedral Catholic High School in June and was a few weeks away from attending Loyola Marymount University where she was going to be a member of the Cross Country/Track team and study business.
Kjell and Vicki Nielsen Scholarship
Kjell Nielsen loved to teach and to learn. For many years, he flew volunteers down to Mexico to provide medical help for the local people. He understood that education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty and helplessness for the less fortunate. In Kjell’s honor, this scholarship is intended to give first-generation, low-income female students the opportunity to pursue post-secondary education.
William W. Otterson Legacy Fund
To recognize Bill’s tremendous work in fostering entrepreneurship in the local and global business communities, and to support CONNECT’s development efforts to grow the San Diego innovation economy, the organization has established the William W. Otterson Legacy Fund. This fund will ensure that CONNECT remains sustainable in the long-term by providing it with the ability to invest in key new projects and initiatives that advance its mission.
Steven and Lisa Pite Family Foundation
This fund was established to realize their vision of giving back and connecting with the community. They support a variety of causes, including A Touch of Comfort, which improves the quality of life and peace of mind for cancer patients and their loved ones. Other charitable interests include medical research, public education, disaster relief, and organizations that address Alzheimer’s disease and Angelman syndrome.
Amanda Post Memorial Scholarship Fund
This scholarship fund was established to honor Amanda Post who passed away in a tragic multi-car accident as she returned from an athlete training camp in Mammoth. Amanda graduated in June 2010 from Cathedral Catholic High School with honors, and was scheduled to attend Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in September on a track scholarship. The scholarships will be awarded to San Diego County female high school seniors planning to attend a 4-year university, who have a 3.25+ G.P.A., and will compete on the college track and/or cross country team.

Kevin Quinn established the Quinn Family Foundation to support those in need, especially children and seniors, and to give back to his community.
Rady Children’s Hospital- San Diego Fund
Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego Fund helps ensure that Rady Children’s – our region’s only hospital devoted solely to pediatrics – continues its mission to offer comprehensive medical services to the children in our community. Beyond treatment, Rady Children’s is a leader in child health advocacy, teaching and in the development of new technological advances.
San Diego Unified Emergency School Supplies Fund
This fund was approved by the Board of Education in early 2011 and will support school supply budgets at every San Diego Unified non-charter school. The intent of the program is to give all San Diegans an opportunity to support our schools. Funds raised through this program will be used to make sure students have the supplies – paper, pencils, crayons, markers, art supplies, etc. – that they need to be successful
in school.
Doctor Sadanand Singh Fund
Dr. Sadanand Singh influenced countless people around the world. He held several professor positions and his success as an author led him to his career as publisher. He and his first wife, Kala, founded College Hill Press. He and his second wife, Angie, created Singular Publishing Group, and he founded ContentScan. Every field this man, who had been predestined to be a farmer, touched proved fertile. He has passed his appreciation for family and his affection for and focus on education across generations of relatives.
Joshua Judson Stern Foundation
This fund was established to honor Joshua Judson Stern, an Army veteran who served two tours in Iraq. He was a graduate of Torrey Pines High School, and the University of Michigan. This fund will be used for charitable giving to benefit service veterans, college applicants, humane societies, and other worthy causes.
WD-40 Company Foundation
The WD-40 Company has always believed in supporting the communities in which its employees live and work by providing resources and volunteer time to nonprofit, charitable organizations. The first effort of this new fund is the support of the WD-40 Military Collectible Series, a specially printed set of four WD-40 cans that serve as a salute to our troops. This program will donate 10 cents from each can sold during the promotion to three deserving charities that support our active duty military, wounded warriors, veterans, and their families.
Mabon Willis Fund for the Arts
This fund was established in honor of Nehemiah (Ned) Willis and Mildred (Mabon) Willis who were responsible for instilling a life-long love of the arts in their daughter, Felicia. Ned was the first in his family to attend college and developed a deep appreciation for literature, art and music. Both worked to ensure their daughter would have every opportunity to experience the arts, despite their modest income. Felicia shares the same passion with her own children. The Mabon Willis Fund will help build a deeper appreciation, application and understanding of arts and culture through support to artists, students, and communities everywhere.
