The Carlsbad Charitable Foundation (CCF) Holds and Open House

December 14th, 2011

The Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation (AHLF) opened their doors to Carlsbad Charitable Foundation (CCF) members interested in observing the Academy for Environmental Stewardship. A 2011 CCF Grant to the Carlsbad Education Foundation has enabled all 800+ Carlsbad third-graders to participate in two day-long field trips to the AHLF Discovery Center as part of the Academy for Environmental Stewardship’s year-long education program that highlights Carlsbad’s local flora, fauna, and rich cultural history. During the December visit, the students in attendance learned about a day in the life of a Luiseño child and were even visited by a member of the Juaneo /Luiseno, Diegueno/Kumeyaay, and Californio Tribes, who answered questions about the lifestyle and traditions of his ancestors.

The Oceanside and Carlsbad Charitable Foundations Collaborate on an Access to Food Forum

November 10, 2011

The Oceanside and Carlsbad Charitable Foundation joined forces to host a forum on Access to Food to emphasize the growing need to address hunger in San Diego County. The very successful event, which was open to the public, featured a screening of the documentary “1-in-7,” a short film made by Carlsbad High School students to raise awareness about hunger in San Diego. In 2010, the Oceanside Charitable Foundation’s grant focus was on addressing access to food and the group supported the creation of an Oceanside distribution site for The San Diego Food Bank and assisted with the daily meal distribution at the Brother Benno Foundation. In its current cycle of grantmaking, The Carlsbad Charitable Foundation is focusing on arts projects that have the ability to make a difference in the community. As Chair Hollyce Philips remarked, ““The screening of the film “1-in-7” demonstrates the power and impact art can have on culture - in this case, calling attention to the important issue of hunger and access to food in our community.”
