San Diego Family Asset Building Coalition for Financial Literacy
From 2003 – 2009, the Health and Human Services program focused on increasing financial literacy – helping working families to break the cycle of poverty through education focused on asset building, budget management, traditional banking relationships, reduction of debt, improved credit, proper tax preparation including claiming of the EITC, and increased savings.

Paradise Valley Community Health Fund – Increasing Access to Primary and Behavioral Health Care
From 2009 – 2011, the Health and Human Services program stewarded a 2-year, $3 million project to increase access to primary and behavioral care in the areas served by the formerly nonprofit Paradise Valley Hospital in National City (primarily areas in National City, Southeast San Diego and Chula Vista). The funds were designated for public benefit by the California Attorney General when the hospital was sold from nonprofit to for-profit management in 2007.
Grantee partners include the San Ysidro Health Center; SAY San Diego; Scripps Chula Vista Hospital/Scripps-Whittier Diabetes Institute; Sharp Chula Vista Hospital; South Bay Community Services; California Dental Association Foundation/University of the Pacific School of Dentistry; Metro United Methodist Ministries and the UCSD Student Run Free Clinic – Baker Elementary School Site.
