Clean Environments, Healthy Communities

Clean Environments, Healthy Community

The Clean Environments, Healthy Communities Initiative supports efforts to enhance human health and environments in low-income communities in the San Diego region.

The Foundation is pleased to partner with a large and diverse group of outstanding nonprofit organizations working to ensure all future generations enjoy clean air, safe water, diverse wildlife and access to green spaces along with natural areas throughout San Diego County. To date, we have partnered with community-based organizations working with low-income urban neighborhoods and tribal reservations to engage more than 2,200 community residents in revitalizing green space and reducing exposure to toxic pollutants, including closing our region’s last remaining illegal dump site, and to launch the Tribal Environmental Health Collaborative.

Tribal Environmental Health Collaborative

Tribal Environmental Health

In 2006, with the assistance of the California Endowment and in partnership with the Native American Environmental Protection Coalition (NAEPC), The Foundation developed the Tribal Environmental Health Collaborative. The Collaborative works to reduce environmental contaminants and protect community health on our 18 local Native American reservations. The mission of the Collaborative is to provide facilitated collaboration for tribal communities to develop and address environmental health issues through community organizing, outreach and advocacy, and to improve tribal environmental health through projects, policy actions, and communication between tribal governments, community residents, other agencies, universities and nonprofits.
